Linux / Unix Systems Administrator

Specific Requirements: US Citizenship Required. Background checks will be performed. Although SAVANTURE’s client base is primarily commercial, we do support Government Clients and Government System Integrators so Security Clearances may be performed as customer requirements evolve including, but not limited to, DOD and Public Trust; as such, you MAY be required to undergo ongoing government clearances.

The work for this position MUST BE PERFORMED from the Security Operations Center (SOC) in Chantilly, VA. SAVANTURE is NOT offering a relocation package, nor can this position be performed remotely. All work is to be performed from the office.

Travel: No travel is anticipated for this position as a normal course of business. From time to time optional travel to attend training or perform training with a partner may be offered.

We have some minor flexibility in this schedule, however 2 of 4 days will need to be covering the weekend for 12 hour shifts each. As we continue to grow, existing personnel will receive the option to change shifts based on skills and seniority.

SAVANTURE is offering a unique opportunity for a Unix Administrator to expand or continue to develop their skills and careers into security. SAVANTURE, a developer of network security products and services, has created a hybrid position for a Linux Systems Administrator within the Application Support Team in Chantilly SOC. The Application Support Team is the division of IT that manages all production environments for our client-facing applications within our Security Operations Center. Because of the high redundancy and resilience of the systems, the operational management task should be limited and therefor this role will augment our staff as a Security Analyst. Because most “targets” in security are endpoints (servers, PCs, mobile devices, apps), we have found great success in training IT personnel to be security analysts. This is a unique opportunity for someone willing to invest time in learning new skills and getting in early on a high growth company.

The individual will be responsible for the support of SAVANTURE’s multi-Service, multi-tenant Security Services Platform which supports SIEM, LMS, NMS, Vulnerability Scanning and Multi-Factor Authentication. Individual will work within Security Operations Center (SOC) in Chantilly, VA. You must have the ability to work independently with very minimal management, work in a fast-paced environment and be highly motivated and detail orientated. Individual must be a proven problem solver under pressure.

Responsibilities:
* Expert knowledge of Linux/Unix operating systems. The ability to deploy, troubleshoot and manage systems & services in a production Linux environment
* Experience in best practices around the installation, configuration, upgrade, patching, maintenance & monitoring of production Linux servers and cloud environments
* Constantly monitor up-time and diagnose and resolve performance issues across various platforms and products
* Create and maintain documentation as it relates to infrastructure systems, design, configuration, support and processes
* Conduct research and cost-benefit analysis and make recommendations on investments in software and infrastructure supporting our production environment

Technical Qualifications:

The ideal candidate has 5+ years of knowledge of Linux/Unix products and tools and can demonstrate experience and knowledge in the following areas:
* Extensive experience in the installation, configuration & maintenance of CentOS, and other Linux distributions
* In depth knowledge of server side technologies (Apache HTTPD, Tomcat, MySQL, PostgreSQL, SSH, NFS, BIND, djbdns, qmail, OpenLDAP, OpenSSL, LVS)
* In depth knowledge of network technologies and associated troubleshooting skills and tools
* Solid understanding of virtual environments and experience using the VMware suite of products including vSphere Enterprise, vCenter & VMware tools.
* Understanding and willingness to support Big Data solutions such as Hadoop
* Demonstrated experience in the support, monitoring and capacity planning of resources in production environments
* Extensive experience in performing root cause analysis of application bottlenecks in conjunction with engineering/development teams
* Engineering high-availability systems/environments

Additional preferred skills:
* Knowledge of public cloud vendors as well as the design, implementation, and operational management of large scale cloud environments.
* Knowledge of big data and messaging technologies (Hadoop, ElasticSearch)
* Knowledge of automation and configuration management tools

Critical Responsibilities and Experience required include:

      • J2EE application development on UNIX operating systems with database connectivity.
      • Extensive knowledge of Java, EJB, AJAX, SSL, JDBC, Web Services, Vaadin, Esper Complex Event Processing Frame work, JSON, Regular Expressions, Shell Scripting, Storm.
      • Database development skills in Oracle, Postgres or other SQL database, MongoDB/NoSQL Databases, Elasticsearch.
      • Graphing with Jasper, JFreeCharts or other charting and graphing software.
      • Experience with Hadoop frameworks (Horton a plus), Hive, Impala, Pig .

Business Requirements

    • 1-2 years commercial experience in a SOC or Network Operations Centre, ISP environment preferred, however we will consider those from enterprise clients with specific hands-on SIEM/MSSP experience
    • Previous experience with tools used in monitoring the network including log management systems (LMS), ticketing systems such as Remedy, and Network Health Systems such as HP Open View and Netcool.

Job Description:Individual must have an experience of 5 to 10 years in security monitoring, design, configuration, installation, and troubleshooting of Global based MSP and NMS production systems, Wide Area Networks and Local Area Networks in a 24×7 NOC/SOC environment. Individual must be able to utilize a wide range of technologies such as such as Security, IP, OSPF,RIP, BGP, ATM, Ethernet, and general problem resolution skills to identify and correct failing component(s) in complex network and security architectures. SNMP management background to include SNMP/MIB concepts, configuration development scripting on both UNIX and Windows platforms for security management tools. Second and third level network support includes troubleshooting and knowledge of IDS, Cisco, Pix, Checkpoint, router/switch equipment and various other equipment. Security Management specialist will also be responsible for the administration of network management tools to include: configuration, implementation, monitoring, maintenance, and management of system baselines.
